Returning a sow back to gestation health.
I have a sow that has had 20 pigs since the first week in Feb. over two breedings, this time she is not bouncing back as well. We had the litter on her for 30 days, and I need to put some fat back on her, and I am also curious if I should give her some type of vitamin shot. Her coat is and skin are ...

Clean out - infections
I have read several items on cleaning out the birth canal with a AI rod. Curious to what works best to keep them from having infections after sleeving a gilt/sow. I saw a post about using mild iodine and water solution with a AI straw. Is there a better solution or med, and is there any side effects...

840 tags.
Bought premise ID tags a while back now I need to get 840 tags. What is the difference between Full and Half Duplex tags? I just want to buy the button tags, no need for the larger tags. Also where is the best place to buy them? I had been told by a vet that I could get them through the Ohio Departm...

Re: If you were to start your own purebred operation....
I agree with yorks, because they are more easy to market with being able to generate crossbreds or just remain pure. But then I would state that Berkshires tend to be the hot ticket now days. I have seen lots of growth within this breed at our local and state level. Many berks can compete easily wit...

Re: Weanling Extravaganza Question
The sift is only one judges opinion. I prefer to get there early enough to look for what I want. There is generally a lot of nice pigs. Just don't bid against me. LOL

Re: Ovegel
Obviously there are benefits to bringing the hog back in instantly with Ovegel. But I was told that litter numbers are smaller when using this product. Not sure if that is correct. Also when Ovegel came out it was cost prohibited because you had to buy so much of it, that it didn't serve the smaller...

Re: DRAMINSKI ESTROUS DETECTOR users
Looking for a Excel graph or dot graphing electronically to graph cycles with my Draminski. There is a dog one at: http://draminski-us.com/pdf/DOD_Data_Sheet_EN-11-24-15.pdf If anyone knows of a sample graph of something that could be easily modified to numbers from 500 to 100 on the left and 1 - 31...

Registering purebreds
Ok, I have Spots, Poland, Berks, Landraces, Herefords, Durocs, Yorkshires and every year I have to make multiple phone calls and emails to get them registered. The problem I ran into this year, is that we try to register litters in our childrens names - one because it is more affordable to do so, an...

Kevin Wendt - Awards a pig to a fast kid.
I wanted to tell you of the act of kindness that Kevin Wendt did at a sale the other night. Maybe this has occurred before- but it was a first for me. Kevin was auctioning off a hog, that happened to be one of his own that he had consigned to an auction. The pig was of good quality but did not have ...

Re: Best Negative spot boar
There are a lot of nice spot boars out there now. We have been happy with our Renaissance litter from a Wallstreet x Radioactive sow. Each day they get better and better. Wintex just picked up a nice boar, yet I do not know his stress status. Lots of choices out there.

Re: picturing pigs
We use a SD camcorder and download the free Windows Movie Maker program. Plug the SD card right in the computer and edit the best pictures off the video. Most cameras have a SD card now. This process was pretty easy and cheap to do. As far as baits, different hogs like different baits. We used a gol...

Re: Sow with week old babies
We give 12 cc for two to three nights following delivery - 6 in left side and 6 in right side each night. I just had one that constipated and had infection, it took three days of this protocol and some Epson salt and mineral oil to get her eating, pooping and feeding correctly and it is still isn't ...

Re: Breed for calendar?
At one time I saw a calendar floating around here on Showpig. Yes, I can do the math and figure each show, but the reason I was asking is because I do not attend all the shows, and I would like to schedule my summer pigs for the best time to place them in show homes throughout the country, and I wou...

Breed for calendar?
Does anyone have a "breed for" - calendar? Thus if I wanted to show at NAILE, when should I be looking to breed? I can do the math, but I figured someone might have a guide. Thank you.
