Re: Another paylean?
Paylean is most effective at day 14 through day 21. Past day 21 you begin adverse effects and are doing no good. So when you plan to add paylean to the the diet plan your show date in the ideal time frame. Depending on what the hog needs I've set my start of paylean 14 days before but if I believe t...

Re: Feeding Blood Meal
I would think a couple oz's per feeding but honestly I couldn't find any real info on just blood meal. Now the jowl reducer supplements such as fitter 35's key ingredient is dried red blood cells and you feed it at about 1lb a day. where did you get it and what is the brand. Is it for swine specific...

Re: Walking a pig
I'm not sure if it's really bad for them to walk around unattended to hurt there training. But if you are in a commutative barn where other students have there pigs then it is EXTREMELY unprofessional and rude not to mention dangerous to just let the pig run around when others are around. Pigs like ...

Re: Dealing with heat
like mtbkmom stated what type of environment are they in. But some things that have helped and That I use on my summer hogs are fans and misting systems on timers. I generally run a large fan per pen and a two stage misting system to come on in the late morning and then the early evening for about a...

Re: How to feed this gilt last 50 days
My gilt is 180lb. We have 50 days left until fair. She is tall fronted, big boned, and sound but lacks cover and tight flanked. Great genetics and wormed regularly. She is fed twice a day. 2 1/2lbs 16% Sunglo, 6 oz Champion Drive, 6 oz Heavy Weight, 1/2 lb steam rolled oats plus joint supplements. ...

Re: Down on pasterns
If you have a hog on his pasterns there isn't a lot you can do. However I would get the hog off 19% at 175 pounds, I'm imagining this hog may be a bit stiff so lets loosen it up a bit. What kind of surface does the hog stay on? Standing low on pasterns can simply be genetics. But I would pay attenti...

Re: Depth charge
Depth charge will do nothing for weight gain directly. However generally when you add a supplement you take a certain amount of something else so say a hog is eating 6lbs of feed a day and that's all the intake it will do, just barely eating that. Now say we know we can only have a 6lb window and we...

Re: Kgb need help trimming fat.
Haven't seen KGB on here for a couple weeks so I'll try and help Others will tune in as well. What are you feeding now and what rations? you definitely need to slow those two down. you Need to be averaging 1.25 pounds a day to make it at 280 and no more. Fitter 35 can be used as a complete feed 2lbs...

Re: Paylean gain KGB
Just my experience My average is .5lb daily gain. I've had some hogs go 1lb extra a day and I've had just as many go 0 more lbs a day. Just like I've had some hogs make a world of change on ractopamine (paylean) and some didn't change much at all.

Re: weight gain
Honestly I start my animals on power fuel and heavy weight from day one I just adjust throughout there growth. They love the heavy weight which keeps them eating and I can adjust more or less depending how much cover they need and at what stage in there growth they are. some times it's as little as ...

Re: Supplement Help
Is your first pig mentioned cleaning the bowl after every meal if so I would add depth charge making it to 1lb per day and ultra full. If he continues to clean the bowl with these added you are good. However if he finds that it is to much in your bowl you may have to sacrifice some of the feed to ma...

Re: Need to gain weight.... QUICK!!!!
should be feeding the two hogs separately It's possible that the one hog that is doing well has been eating more then there share. Paylean may help with only about 10 days left. I would start wet slopping the feed if you haven't started yet. the weight comes in a bit faster wet slopped. the biggest ...

Re: Weigh in 6days
powerfill and depth charge. would usually be my answer but you only have 6 days. I would go twice a day 1lb feed, 1lb depth charge or beet pulp and 1lb oats. It will minimize weight gain. and I would cut water 24 hrs before from trailer loading. however if it's extremely hot where you are at I would...

Re: Need help breaking showpig
I tell you a regiment I start my pigs on if I see that they are a serious pain to walk. twice daily give them 10mg melatonin, 5htp, and valerian root. It's not the cheapest unless you buy in bulk online but do not skimp on any ingredient use them all. after a couple weeks you will begin to see a cal...

Pigdadd, Have you, or do you think you could feed it twice a day to one that has some joint issues I've never fed more then that, nor have I fed to try and help correct an issue so I couldn't tell you past what I posted. The directions do talk about loading up for a week or two and then drop the am...
