Re: Gilt overdue
To induce you would need Lutalyse, or Estrumate. But be SURE about the breeding dates prior to inducing.

Re: Once you go black
I have used Purple Oil to do this, you do have to be careful because even dark pigs will sunburn with this stuff. It does work best when they can get some sun. It will condition their hair and skin and will help darken them with time and a little sun. One other thing you can try for those dark haire...

Re: linder 612
I feed, the Lindner 600 first just about 1 bag per litter, then I go to Lindner 606. I don't feed the Lindner 612 prior to the sales unless some are getting a little too bloomy. I don't know if that really answers your question, but if you would be switching feeds from some other brand to the Lindne...

Re: Pig pulling snare
The one Hog Dog posted is also the one I use. I have tried the one Dr. Amy posted but I prefer the semi disposable one.
Also I have found that it is very helpful to have someone else handy to help tighten the snare once you have it positioned properly, it is much easier for me that way.

Re: Litter of mummies question for Hog Dog or Dr Amy
Did you vaccinate prior to breeding? We use Farrosure Gold +B. Whole litters of mummies can mean parvo. Although vaccination doesn't protect you 100% of the time. I remember about 8 or 9 years ago around here that there were quite a few gilts that had litters of mummies, didn't effect the sows. For ...

Re: Pigs that dont want to break
I copied this from a post that I posted a few weeks ago. But here is what we have done and it typically works provided you have the facilities to do this. It is helpful if you have another pig who is cooperative, but really the best thing is if you can just let the pig out of the pen and shut the ga...

I would be worried about an ulcer at this point. Some form of omeprazole (sp?) would be something to consider.

Re: Matrix to change cycle dates in advance
Welll... the problem with this is that she is a gilt. There is no guarantee that she will cycle on time the second cycle after the Matrix. The main point of using Matrix is to breed on the first cycle after discontinuing. She may or may not cooperate.

First I am not a vet. If you haven't gotten a message from Hog Doc yet though, the Butaject is not oxytocin, they gave you the wrong thing.

Re: Crossbred Gilts - Where to show?
Forth Worth has a crossbred gilt show. San Angelo has a crossbred gilt show (Texas Bred only though) The Kerrville (Hill Country District Show) also has a crossbred gilt show. I don't know what county your in but they are expanding the gilt show to all exhibitors in the District area for the 2015 sh...

Re: Springsteen at the stud
I also have a mid-August litter out of him.
Bred him to a really great designed sow who always gives me nice pigs. I believe this is her deepest litter yet, but only time will tell. So far I am very pleased with these pigs. FYI - he does have the red gene.
