Re: 33 days until weigh in
When you start feeding the supplements don't omit the base feed. When you say add as much weight as you can. What is the pigs frame like. There are some pigs that should not be a heavy weight or some pigs that don't need to be a light weight. You need to make sure you find the proper finishing weigh...
Re: Drooling
I would think that maybe he was stung in the mouth by a bee or wasp. I was thinking that before you said that there were bees around. I would give him some Benadryl and see if that helps.

I am sorry I have never used either. I know people who have used Melatonin with good success.

Re: Hand feeding
That all depends on the pig. Some pigs grow to quick on full feed and they become tight and lose some of their mobility. This can lead to joint issues. A general rule is between 125 and 150. I have had to start hand feeding at 115 because of growth.

Re: Castration problem
Call you local County FFA or 4H agent and see if there are any other vets in the area who can do this. If the pig is not worth the $200 then I would say feed him out.

Re: Pig losing freshness
If you are holding then you need to make sure and feed a complete holding ration. There are feeds like Power Fill that have all the nutrients they need in less of a ration. I am sure Lindners has one too. Base feed does not have all the nutrients one needs unless it is fed in a sufficient quantity p...

Re: Pig losing freshness
Got a couple of questions. How old is the barrow and what does he weigh. If I had to make a recommendation now I would say you probably need to give him some more base feed. I think you are feeding things that you should look at feeding closer to the end. You want to make sure that you are ready for...

Re: Pork taste Fishy tasting Bacon/Ham
I agree with BerkBabe. Cured bacon and ham that comes from a processor has a different flavor than the stuff you buy from the store. I like it but my wife said that that bacon tasted like it was bad. She has never had fresh bacon before and just does not like the flavor of the bacon or sausage. Fish...

Re: 40 days to show, need weight gain
You need to up the feed intake. 3lbs of complete feed should result in 1lb of weight. The oat groats are not really adding to weight gain. Take them away and replace with feed. At this point I would be asking what the minimum weight is and ensure you make that. So I would feed 1.5lbs of each feed fo...

Re: How to feed oats
I feed them to do what KGB suggested. They do increase the particle size of the diet and offer "oat fiber" that is good stuff for the digestive tract. If your pig is always hungry you can add some oats to the diet to help the pig feel full. This can help with attitude when you are working ...

Cut out the show feed and get low protein hog feed. Also you can mix in some extra corn.

Re: SHOWDAY Feeding Program
Well you have it planned out pretty well. One thing to think of is at a show there are a lot of noises and lights and things that the pig may or may not have been exposed too. They may not eat or drink as you plan. Also I would suggest bringing water from home. This eliminates just 1 factor that cou...

If you have drug testing you need to make sure and get with your vet ASAP so you get can vet approved medications. Since it is so close to the show if your vet has not approved or administered these drugs then you can test hot and get thrown out and banned.

Re: Separation Anxiety
I agree with the suggestion above. We had this last year. We would walk them together and then gradually start trying to split them up. It took a week or two to break this habit. Stay calm and keep working. Also to help distract her use treats. We would use marshmallows and she would start following...
