Re: Sunglo feeds
We use Sunglo G 18 and it is easily the least expensive of the branded show pigs feeds in our area. We've done exceptionally well with the feed.

Re: York boars
Never Back Down is a new boar so there's not going to be any progeny feed out and bred out of him yet. But there is plenty on 282-7. The only reason Olsen let 282-7 go was that he produced a son that he thinks takes him even more down the road. His son is Surge. Of the 2 boars you have mentioned, I ...

Re: SA Barrow Entry Video
Good looking barrow! I love the hock and hind leg in him to go with the monster bone. He spreads his toes really well and looks like one that can get out an go. He could be a notch taller fronted for the trend right now, but cleaned up he's going to be easy to find in the show ring! Good Luck with h...

Re: HEAVY STRUCTURED YORK BOAR
Bone Buzz is Average Frame size. He shouldn't make them dinks. I think he should be big enough outlined to use on an average framed hog. His front pasterns are good and he is pretty tall fronted if that helps any.

Re: Crossbred show in Perry, GA
Gilt was 6th in class. Wouldn't eat so she didn't have enough mass to compete. But he got her sold!

Re: Crossbred show in Perry, GA
Wow. Congrats!!! Yes, he was very pleased! Now that he has retired from teaching and coaching at the college, He's able to just focus on the swine program and has started a show team at Murray State. Looks to be bery popular so far. Great way for those kids that still have the itch to keep showing ...

Re: HEAVY STRUCTURED YORK BOAR
Bone buzz has been pretty consistent at generating bone. I would use him if your sow has plenty of body and volume.

Crossbred show in Perry, GA
For those of you down in Perry this weekend, make sure to check out my dad's blue butt boar that he has down there to show and sell. His pedigree is Carry On x Frank the Tank. I doubt you will be able to miss him. He will most likely be the heaviest boned most massive boar in the show. Sound as a ca...

Re: Short teated
Little emphasis on teat count and quality and more on showring appeal. We've also shortened the body type. Many gilts are retained as replacements after their show career not on genetics and maternal qualities but based on how much they paid for her and how she did in a couple of shows.

Re: Bolder Sprung
Mary-Okie she is fairly wide chested and square to the ground. I'm thinking she could have more turn to the fore rib back behind shoulders. Is there any way to do that? KGB makes a very good point. If they are pretty flat in their upper ribcage, you can't reshape bone. One thing that I have seen ov...

Re: How much walking is to much
It shouldn't hurt her a bit. Many breeders have their sows in dirt lots during gestation where they have ample access to walk around. The only thing to watch out for in the wintertime is ice. Just make sure you don't exercise her in areas where she could slip and hurt herself.

Re: Bolder Sprung
Many would say that it means she needs to be wider chested. However, I typically talk about curvature of ribshape when talking about bolder hogs. Typically, this issue is in upper rib curvature. Unfortunately, if she is one of those that knees in up front, then there is nothing you can do to fix tha...

Re: medication in feed
Not sure what you are making that you would need a 22% protein unless you are making a phase 1 prestarter. Personally, I would stay with a branded complete feed for your pre-starter and a phase 2 as well. At least until they are around 8 weeks old. I'm assuming that you will be using Soybean Meal as...
