Re: Am I overreacting?
Do not wait and just take him offguard with a "casual" conversation. Set up an appointment with him in his office to discuss his most recent office and "tour" of your barn. Sens this by email and give him options of dates/times. Then sit down with him and bring an outline of poin...

If you cannot have any extra water weight, just enough in the bottle to mix it, pull it up with a goat drencher, shoot it down the side of their cheek way back.

Re: New antibiotic rules Hog Doc, KGB, Darrin
LIndners has removed the CTC from the nursery feeds and leaving the Denegard. From my conversation with them it does not sound like they intend on making CTC/Denegard feed. They have removed the Tylan from 685 and does not sound like they will make some with it if a prescription is written. The othe...

Re: First time farrowing
I am going to disagree with one crucial point: never feed less than 4 lbs when approaching farrowing. During gestation you feed to maintain a BCS of about 2.5. Weeks before farrowing the sow needs to have adequate calories on board so she has enough energy to push. Labor is work and you cannot limit...

Re: farrowing in the heat
I also try to ensure super hydration days before farrowing. I wet slop their feed with water and swine blue lite electrolytes for super energy and plenty of water on board. We use fans, misters but for about 2-3 days after they farrow we put a washcloth on the mister head so the water drops straight...

Re: Two gilts, one barrow...fighting
They can't smell the other pigs odors and aren't as challenged with the alpha pig issue because they can't keep track of who is what. Give them a couple more days. I have an older berk gilt just put into a similar age group of 2 other gilts. She was so freaked the last 5 days she stayed into our fee...

Re: Dealing with heat
We actually have put our misters on a garden timer that they use on golf courses or something similar. It cuts on/off at > and < 85 degrees. It cycles on for about 20 minutes and off for about 20 minutes so the water evaporates off the skin and cools them down. This goes on/off all day. Seem very co...
Re: Wet feed
Dyne---Liquid high calorie supplement. Put about an oz in about 16 oz, shake it up and they love it. Tastes like caramel...I tasted it and it is good.

Re: 60 days until fair
It will soften her up. I don't think it will change the caloric value in the feed significantly. Softer muscle may not be as dense and that may not weigh as much which is why at the very end...last 2 weeks if she softens up nice now you could try 4.5 gms of Paylean. Adding the fat supplement will he...
