HogDoc, is this something that can be put into a ton of feed or do you have to topdress it? It sounds like something I would be interested in if I didn't have to mess with topdressing.

That is why I switch them over to the sow feed which is going to have a higher calcium/phosphorus level than just a grower feed.

<t>I used Jet Fuel once and a friend used him once and both litters were just OK. He made them taller than I was expecting and with less bone as well. They weren't bad just not as good as what I was expecting and with my sow at least, her worst litter she has produced. Growth was good in the litter ...

<t>I would think that a sow feed has more nutritional value as long as the protein is high enough than your average grower feed. Most sow feed base mixes that I have used require about 80 to 100 lbs per ton whereas most grower rations use around 50 to 60. I know with the ADM base mix you use the bas...

<t>So has anyone else been hearing about scrotal hernias with Final Drive or Final Move? I have heard that there is some of this in this breeding. A pretty prominent york breeder is the one who first told me about the problem. He was saying another breeder bred a sow to Final Drive and got 5 boar pi...

<t>I am not going to try to convince you. I know I have spoken to a Sunglo feed rep (at the time, now he is elsewhere) about it. I was very surprised they had it. I have been feeding Sunglo for 2 or 3 years and had no idea that they had it. If I hadn't seen the bags with my own two eyes I wouldn't b...

I believe the number of the Sunglo one that I saw was 804. I know for a fact that I have seen it. It is not on the website but I saw the bag in person at the feedstore and read the tag. The next time I am at there I will look to see if they still have any bags of it left.

I know Sunglo makes one. I will have to look at the number it is. I know it is in the 800 series. A friend of mine feeds Moormans and he told me they had one also.

<t>I agree with mtbkmom about introducing the feed early on to just get them used to it. I wouldn't feed very much, maybe a handful, just to get them used to it early on so that when you do want to start increasing it they are used to it already. If you are slopping them just sprinkle a little on th...

I see that several of the feed companies now make starters with paylean included. I there wasn't a demand for it I doubt they would be making it.

<t>I am with Chopster on this, I doubt that a sow could go that quickly after getting a shot. She was most likely already getting ready to start having them and at most it might of sped up the process a bit. I have had sows not show any outward signs of farrowing (no milk at all or pushing) until li...

<t>I have had pigs that were shaker pigs but I have also had yorks that were totally different. It was like they were cold and really looked like they were shivering. Most didn't start right away at birth. It could be 90 degrees and they were shivering. I talked to Jim Grimm about it once and he sai...

<t>I used to have problems with my yorks not cycling until about 8 months old. They always went on to be good sows and I never had problems with them down the road but it was a pain waiting that long to get them started cycling. These were more of the bigger framed yorks that were leaner and later m...

Like Dr Amy stated, some gilts don't respond on the first set. I usually try again in a couple of days and they most all go at that time. I think these are ones that would have gone way over their due date if left alone.

<t>Personally I think 20% is too hot to be finishing gilts on. This will make them exactly what you are talking about. I would start dropping the protein at least to 18%. Also, if you are wanting to start adding things, I think the earlier you start the better off you will be. This way you can do it...
