<t>I would hand feed at least twice per day ( 3-4 times if you are home all day) and take away his feed if he quits eating. It might take a few days for him to realize that he had better eat when the feed is in front of him. Leaving the feed there all day long is just like having them on a self feed...

My sow is a blue butt and has no red on her. Her mother was a pure york, but her sire had the red gene. She threw a red belted pig in the past, so I knew she carried it.

Sudden Impact throws red. (Top Cut ) I just had a litter born. There are several painted up tri-colored pigs. Actually they should be really fun to look at when they grow up.

I had an older sow that became a problem. She produced some good pigs, so I dealt with it for awhile. She is now gone, but have a gilt of hers bred. My other sows do fine. I remember the post about the calcium gel and saved that.

<r>Darin, your article said to keep the bred sows under lights throughout. ( at least that is how I interpreted it) Do you have any suggestions on that? Attached is a link to a study I found. A lot of the terminology is over my head, but there are some interesting points. <br/> <br/> <URL url="http:...

Thanks, Bren. I will increase the light in my barn, just bought a light timer. I hope to catch and breed them this month. What's the thoughts on additional light *after* they're bred? Leave the lights on for a while, the whole pregnancy, or not at all needed any longer? That is a very good question...

Less daylight, less sows getting bred, seasonal infertility. I was wondering about this. How much light is needed for good ovulation/fertility before being bred? Do you leave lights on in the barn longer? Increase intensity? We always kept our show horses under lights to keep their winter hair from...

<t>Do you think she is already cycling on her own and nobody has seen her? We are getting into wintertime and maybe her cycles are not overly expressive. <br/> <br/> You might want to try some Matrix and see how she responds.<br/> <br/> I don't normally breed this time of year, but just finished wit...

Does Big Papi have any pigs on the ground? If not, has anybody bred to him and settled?

Show-Rite Feed

I am just looking for some feedback on Show-Rite feed. It is now available in my area for the first time. Anybody? I am interested in the starter feeds as well as the grower/finishers.

I appreciate the feedback. It is interesting to know what is normal or not. I never saw even the slightest sign of a heat. She must have been extremely silent if she did anything. We will never starve raising pigs, thats for sure!

Dr. Amy, Hog Doc- Gilt Ovary pics

<r>I gave two gilts PG600 to get them cycling. They came in just fine. Only one of the two came back in for the second cycle. <br/> <br/> I ended up culling the non-cycling gilt, not necessarily for that reason.<br/> <br/> Here are some pictures taken of her ovaries. I was just curious if there is a...
