Re: Big Pigs - How do we slow them down?
We had good luck last year with Powefill. We held one for a little over a month and she still won our show. You have a looooong time to go however. KGB can probably help you more.

Re: easy going show pig?
Sullivans makes a show pig paste - but I've never tried it. Melatonin - over the counter for people, buy it at walmart. All natural. Have used it on a heifer before and it worked. You need to start several days or a week before the show. Dose it like you would for a person - may want to double up as...

Re: Revive VS Keep N On
I could never get our pigs to drink the Keep n On. It's also red so not real good on white pigs.

Re: Electrolyte supplement
The directions say to use up to 3 days before show/ transport. Can it be used longer to improve appetite or does it start to lose effectiveness after several days?HogDoc wrote:Its just one ounce per gallon of drinking water or two ounces per gallon of slop water

When is too late to switch feed?
My daughter has 2 gilts for our local market show in 21 days. Right now they weigh 210 with minimum weight of 220 and max 270. They could both easily go to the high side with their frame size. Our problem is we can't get them to eat more than 5 lbs feed per day. We are feeding Sunglo 16% finisher. H...

Re: Supplement to give full look
I've never had much luck getting pigs to drink Keep N On. Plus the red color doesn't work so well for white pigs!! I even tried pouring it over bread to get them to eat it.

Re: Videos added! Gilt walking bow legged, toeing in on rear
If it was me I would have her on something like a 12% sow feed. As basic of a feed as you can find. I agree that any judge worth anything will see it immediately. I have had some luck basically stopping muscle growth and letting their skeleton continue to grow. It won't make it go away totally but ...

Re: Videos added! Gilt walking bow legged, toeing in on rear
She will be shown in a market show at our small local show - about 45 hogs. Was planning on using paylean at the end - Wonder if that will make it worse? I think she strides out well now, not choppy or tight.

I would guess that he is short strided, choppy walking? Needs to loosen up.

Videos added! Gilt walking bow legged, toeing in on rear
My daughter has a really nice gilt weighing 185lbs. that recently started walking, what I'd describe as bow legged. She is heavy boned, huge hipped. From the rear her feet land inward when she walks. I don't think she is short strided on the move, but looks "funky" for lack of a better wor...

Re: Natural Ways To Calm Show Pig
Whatever you use, try it before the show. One year the breeder we bought pigs from gave us something to help our hog not tire out in the ring. From the time my son entered the ring to the time he left, his hog ran around the ring like a lunatic, rolled around in the shavings and squealed the entire ...
