Re: Length of tail - does it matter?
I would say it shouldn't matter, but probably plays a role in placings when they are close. If you happen to have a very competitive pig I would think you're OK, but it may give the impression your project did not come from a "reputable" breeder...whatever that might mean.

It does. I cant remember if it's an 8 or 15 day withdrawal. Plus it's off label for swine.

Re: Hi Point Genetics?
That's up to you. I almost did this last season and decided not on the sole fact of the ethics (and that I might have been burned by them in the past). I've had much higher success rates with places like Premium Blend. My confidence is in other boar studs at this point.

Re: pg 600, matrix and heat cycles
Day 21 is the day they are standing to the next cycle standing. It's about the same for matrix and PG...4-9 days. On average we see them standing around day 5. It's not recommended to breed on the cycle off PG 600. The conception rates are a lot lower. You should aim to breed off the second cycle th...

Re: Rebreeding
She could have some damage/scar tissue. Did you have to use a snare?
How did you get her bred originally?
How is her body condition? How much is she eating? The ones I've had trouble rebreeding have usually been ones that lose a lot of body condition during milking.

TBH I haven't had a ton of success with these types of products. They don't calm as much as they make them sleepy, and at times less responsive.

Keep in mind water weight as well. 1 gallon of water = 8lbs. I would weigh daily. Also, have you increased exercise?

Boar nutrition
Looking for direction on feeding a boar for productive purposes. What diet will make them potentially the most potent? Thanks!

Re: Feed for depth of body/side
Ultra Full works for us like a charm. We start feeding small amounts around 75-80lbs. IMO You really need to feed it over the course of a project and increase it as you go. That belly drop happens over time and is really hard to get very quickly.

Re: Gilts with little appetite
In terms of products that have always worked for us, we use Vita Charge Liquid Boost and the Vita Charge paste (now a gel). You have to feed the boost everyday, but I swear by it. I use a syringe to draw it out and squirt it directly in their mouth. I've seen my pigs on it and off it and it works!

Re: Barrow off feed ???
In terms of products we have always used Vita Charge liquid boost or the Vita Charge paste with really good results.
Also, we usually have to short feed a few feedings to get them back on it. This all assumes there is nothing going on health wise.

Re: Paylean question
Yes 2 meals with the paylean split into the 2 meals.
Absolutely should split pigs when feeding. We usually split permanently at 100lbs.
