Pig down

Post by maddog22 » Mon Jun 24, 2013 7:39 am

We have a 180 barrow that was fine yesterday morning but when we went to feed yesterday evening he acts like he had a stroke. He did get up and eat at some point over night but wouldnt get up this morning. We loaded him up with penicilin last night but i was wondering if there was anything else we could do for him we are 25 days way from our fair. He has no stress in his bloodline and acts like one that did the same thing last year and they said it was his strep gene. We caught him in time and the penicilin helped him but I'm not so sure about this one. Thanks in advance for the help.

Strep is sure possible. Kinda rare in a pig that big but the symptoms seem to fit. Talk to your vet I usually treat those with Polyflex, or excenel and banamine s and dexamethasone.
Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.
