Bred gilts
What's everyone's thoughts on bred gilts being bred and riding in a trailer for a few days will it mess there birth up an or ?
Re: Bred gilts
More than riding a few days is keeping them cool. Shaffer took off late afternoon and got into OK late night and we picked up our girl at 0200 so we could travel through the night and get to Iredell by around 8-9ish....all planned around when it is hot and when it is not so hot. Be prepared to ice them down and keep them cool if traveling during the middle of the day.

Can you give tips on icing them down? Thanks a bunch.
Re: Bred gilts
We fill empty 2 liter coke bottles with water and freeze them and put 3 in each stall in the trailer. This seems to help in the texas heat.

If you can't get to a hose where you pick them up, then go to a car wash and soak the begeezus out of the chips and spray down the momma (rinse cycle). We then put 20 pound bag of ice dupmped into a pile and just buy ice along the way the few times we traveled during the day. I think I read where some folks freeze gallon jugs with water and poke holes into the jugs and hang them up and let the melting water drip down onto them....need at least 8-10 hanging from the top of the trailer I would think, but sounds like it could last awhile.

We use the 1/2 gallon and 1 gallon milk jugs. Just fill them up, put them in the freezer and you have a nice ice block to throw in there with them for the ride.
