HELP need to gain before show
HELP need to gain before show
I have 2 pigs and our county show is in 2 weeks. I'm needing to put 30 pounds on one and 40 on the other. Any suggestions on what else I can give them to eat to help with weight gain? We are currently on 2 1/2 lbs a day of Moorman's 18007, 1/2 cup of oats and 2 oz paylean for 1 of the pigs and 4 oz paylean for the other. This is our first year showing and they were gaining so good the last few weeks until this week. They are eating everything we put out for them in about 15 minutes. Please help!!
Re: HELP need to gain before show
That's not very much daily feed. They should be consuming at least 6 lbs per day as a rule and at least 5.75lbs for paylean use to be legal.
I would increase feed if possible, slop (wet) the feed, and try milk replacer to encourage consumption.

Re: HELP need to gain before show
The 15 minutes thing (or a little longer) is to get pigs to eat when they don't want to. It sounds like you are limiting intake and subsequent growth rate by doing this. When you are wanting to increase growth rate (push), limiting to 15 minutes is NOT the thing to do.
