Seperating show pigs

Post by Ponderosa Pigs » Fri Sep 15, 2017 1:05 am

We have been showing 4-H projects for a couple of years now. The issues that seems to be evolving is our group doesn't want to be separated at show. The question that I have for the group is do you separate the group from one another to stop this from happening and if so when? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Interesting post as I was just thinking about this. We always separate them after 100lbs or so, but they are still in pens right next to each other. We recently started working them individually and have seen an improvement in their focus and drive. I highly recommend doing what it takes to "break" that need to be with each other before you get to the show. If you try to do this at the show you add all that potential issues related to extra stress.

Pigs are funny...we've had some that were like this and some that could care less.

Separate pens and separate exercise times.
