Question about Spot Piglets

Post by littlejewells » Thu Sep 21, 2017 2:39 am

We've bred our Spot sow twice and twice we've gotten red steaked piglets. First was bred to neighbors Spot. Most recent bread from Hi point Spot. 10 of 12 have red streaks. 3 of them are all red outside of spots. Don't feel like I should advertise for spots when they look like wild hogs. Any thoughts? Will the red fade? that's what we've been told....

Thanks ahead

I'm going to venture out and say your sow is probably not pure. the red is more than likely from to much pietrain. if both boars threw the same streaks it has to be the sow.

Did you use Trading Favors?

We did use trading favors! Has this happened before with him?

We bought our papered sow from a reputable breeder. While I have had the thought myself, I want to learn about other options before I point the finger at her (or the breeder she came from).

Thank y'all for your thoughts. I hope to get more!

I don't know if he has the red gene but we had one pig out of a chester white sow that had red hair and another that had some roan colored spots.
