Post by speedbump » Tue Jan 26, 2016 10:01 pm

What is the difference in paylean and high octane champion drive? looks like they do about the same thing by adding muscle and when should you use each.

Paylean (ractopamine HCl) is a feed additive regulated by the FDA as a drug. It can legally be fed to market hogs weighing at least 150 lbs, for the final 45 - 90 lbs of weight gain. The legal maximum concentration is 9 grams/ton. This must be delivered in at least a 16% crude protein feed. There is no feed withdrawal period required. All of that is directed by the FDA.

High Octane Champion Drive is NON medicated. It is composed of very high quality protein sources. It does help with muscle, as well as conditioning skin and hair.

Paylean (ractopamine HCl) is a beta adrenergic agonist (repartioning agent). Meaning that when a pig is fed the same diet with Paylean more nutrients go to building muscle and diverts nutrients and energy away from depositing fat. So Paylean does 3 things:
1. increase muscle
2. increase growth
3. decrease body fat (if supplemental fat is not fed)

Champion Drive does help with muscle but not to the extent, and speed that Paylean does. However, Champion Drive does not have side effects.

They can be fed together as well. It's not the case of using one or the other. Champion Drive can be used anytime during the feeding period. Again, Paylean LEGALLY only for the final 45 - 90 lbs of weight gain.
