Show Pig Base and Meds

Post by thompsonfarms » Wed Feb 03, 2016 9:46 am

I have not really had any sickness issues, but should I be adding meds to Purina show pig base mix for added protection? If so what should I be adding and how much per ton?

I am following the feed mixing direction on the chart for the 50-100, 100-150, and 150-show blends on the purina website.

Thanks for the help.

If you haven't brought in any new animals, and you haven't had any sickness problems, you are probably okay. I would suggest water medication if you need it.

Grow finish pigs (50 lbs and up) are less at risk than newly weaned 21 days old (or older) pigs.

If you feel like you need to medicate through the feed Lincomycin at 100 gram/ton is a good choice. CTC & Denagard is another good choice. I suggest visiting with your local veterinarian and having him help you with your health protocol.

Thanks.

We will be going to several more shows this year and just want to protect from picking up any sickness.
