Feeding advice

Post by Heaterman » Sun Jun 26, 2016 6:21 pm

Need to add about 100 lbs to a gilt in 35 days. Current weight is 156 lbs. Feeding 6 lbs day of 809, 8 oz of heavy weight and 8oz of ultra full per day. Hand feeding morning and evening. Average weight gain per day is 1.7 lbs. Just looking for recommendations on how/what to feed her?

Honestly that is an ADG of 2.85 lbs. That is an extremely tall order especially if the current ADJ is 1.7lbs.
Is the Hog currently cleaning out the bowl. current on worming as well as fresh water and bedding?
If so cut out the ultra full and get a lot of calories in there. Replace the ultra full with high energy diet supplement and if the hog is sound in structure get it on ractopamine about 24 days out.
Now I see you are trying to get to 256 but you may, and if it were me I would just concentrate on making the best quality and fresh lightweight class pig I could. Ultra full and depth charge are great products and recommend them for a fresh look but if you are looking at serious weight gain you generally cut them out due to replacing with high calorie energy.

She has dry skin. When you brush her you get white flakes ( almost like dandruff ) No mites from what i can tell. She has been wormed, clean pen and fresh water. She eats all of her food per feeding. We cut the ultra full from her diet. Thanks for the help.

The flakes are common, put conditioner on the pig twice daily, and bath weekly, two weeks before show bath every 3 days.
If the hog is cleaning out bowl bump up the amount of feed to where there is just a little left after feeding and stick there.
Slop (or wet) the feed to a milk shake consistency with the heavy weight and it will help a lot with weight gain.
