KGB, did I get bad bucket of paylean?

Post by Kbowles » Sun Sep 11, 2016 4:55 pm

Not impressed with bucket of paylean I bought. Have done 2-2 week regimens of 2oz paylean w/6lb feed (17% custom Showpig grind). Pig was averaging 1.7 daily gain before starting paylean. He is only averaging 1.5 while on paylean and this past week averaged 1lb aday. Use the same scales and always check them with my bathroom scales. Weigh in evening an hour after eating before he is walked. Eats all his food, has fresh water and a fan, wormed him with ivermectin before starting first round. Buddy has a litter mate that is averaging 2.5lb aday on paylean. Any suggestions or did I just get a bad batch?

The feeding rate is 2 oz per day. At that rate even if it were bad would not cause the pig to grow slower. What is the lysine% and fat% of the feed? Also, there is a code on the bucket (side) should be a letter, 5 numbers, and another letter. Can you provide that?

What is the litter mate being fed besides Paylean?

Code on paylean bucket is W50116A. Was purchased Aug 6. The first round I did the feed was 17% protein and 7% fat, not sure on lysine, made with ADM mintrate base mix. The second round was using sunglo 18g, 1.1 lysine and 5% fat. He was getting 3lb feed, 8oz highglo, and 1 scoop paylean twice aday. The litter mate was on 3 lb 16% kalmbach foc and 8oz championdrive with a scoop of paylean 2x daily.

That should be plenty of feed (lysine grams/day etc...). The Paylean was manufactured January 11, 2016. It should still be good as long as it wasn't opened and kept in a hot and humid environment.

By the way, any time you have any of the High Octane supplements left over place them in a freezer bag and toss in the freezer. As long as they are cold (frozen or nearly frozen) they will be good the next time you need them.

Paylean is a bit better than other products I've encountered in that it usually works well. But, just like other products at times not every pig responds the way we want them to.... even littermates. Just because pigs are littermates doesn't mean they will perform the same. If that was true then every litter would be exactly the same .... and they are not.
