Too much cover

Post by Delangworthy » Thu Dec 29, 2016 8:29 am

Hi kgb

I have a duroc barrow That weighs 160lbs. I have over fed him unintentional and he has become a butterball. The county show is 60 days. I am now feeding him:

3lbs 709
1lb fitter

Is this enough to allow him to gain some while trimming him up? I plan on the next 30 days getting him back in the right direction and then spending the 30 days finishing him out. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

It should be enough. That's over 26 grams/day lysine so the pig should be fine. It probably won't gain quite as fast as that diet dilutes the energy density (calories) of the feed. It is energy that is primarily responsible for growth rate.
