Increase gain per day

Post by gorillaboze » Mon May 29, 2017 6:11 pm

I have a 100# gilt that I need to get to 120# in 51 days. It is very heavily muscled and is currently on 809 with heavy weight added. It is gaining 1.65#/day in this.

Any suggestions to increase this while not increasing protein?

Protein doesn't increase daily gain, energy (calories) does. Protein, rather lysine and other essential amino acids determines the composition of growth.

At 100 lb 1.65 lb/day is typical. Pigs don't average 2 lb:day AFG everyday of their life from weaning to show. But, the pig need to average 1.96 lb/day from here to show. That is very doable.

- deworm the pig every 30 days (45 days will work, but if you deworm nice per month on the same day you know you will get it done effectively).
- wet feeding can encourage bigger daily feed intake
- Paylean dramatically increases growth rate. Look to use that if the pig is sound during the final 21-28 days
