Help in the uk

Post by ukshowpigs » Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:36 am

hi, i have some pigs to show here in the uk. They are around 170lbs now, show is in around 60 days, there are no weight limits but i want them to be as big as they can be.

i am currently feeding a mix of 75% rolled barley (14% protein roughly) and 25% hi-pro soya (47.5% protein). they are fed this ad-lib.

I cant get a show mix over here like you guys in the us have, and i cant get any supplements.

So is there anything you guys can suggest feeding to help me get the best results? Maybe a different feed mix if my current one isnt good.

How are your pigs looking muscle wise and what are you needing to fix with them is the biggest question. There are things you can do like increase fat to get them to gain a little more weight but its hard to tell with out seeing them and without knowing what you have access to up there.

They are very well muscled, good conformation and length, they are as good as the pigs i showed last year.

I just want to add more flesh to them, bit more fat as they are a bit leaner than i like at the moment, and i just want them to grow well while maintaining a good covering of fat.

I can get most things just not the supplements.

You can add fat into the feed to try and get some cover.

When you say fat what raw ingedients could be added to the diet?

We also get lot of veg and bread for the pigs but that mostly goes to feed dry sows and slaughter pigs to cut costs a bit.
