Price of vegetable fat pak

Post by Q-Bar » Sat May 31, 2008 3:21 am

I couldn't believe it today when I found out that using a all vegetable fat pak would increase my feed price by $45.00 a ton if I only increase the fat by 2%
Even animal fat would be very expensive. What can I do?

really isnt anything you can do. You can look around at different feed mills to try to find something but it wont be much of a difference. 45 bucks sounds a little high.

Even Vegtable oil continues to increase in price like everything else. As part of the soybean complex and a source of possible bio fuels the demand for soy oil continues to increase right along side all of the other commodities.I went and got soyoil yesterday from one of the local mills that buys it in bulk and was/is one of the cheapest sources I had found and they had increased from 56 cents/lb to 80 cents/lb in about 6 weeks. Some of my commercial clients have started cutting the fat out of their diets because it is just not cost effective. We use oil at the rate of 70 lbs to the ton and this amounts to $56 per ton cost, with the price increase it just added a little over $16 per ton in the blink of an eye.
