Feed Question for Kgb

We are going to start feeding Honor "Special Effects" to some of our gilts. It is a 15% protein feed.
Can you tell me if lowering the protein level will slow the rate of gain? We also need pounds as well as cover.

Thanks for your opinion.

It depends upon what your pigs weigh. If they are at least 150 lbs or so, no it should slow growth. It has plenty of energy (8% crude fat), and energy fuels growth.

Never heard of Honor Special Effects. Please post info about it. I could have used a 15% with high fat 2 year ago. Probably couldn't get it in my area.

You could probably get it by special order, but it would take 4-6 weeks in CA. The only place it is floor stocked is at our distribution center in Richmond, IN.

It contains 15% crude protein, 8% crude fat, and 9% crude fiber. It also is technically up to date with intake enhancers. It also contains high energy and ground beet pulp. It does a nice job on rib shape and fill. The Champion Yorkshire Gilt at the 2008 World Pork Expo Jr show was fed Special Effect.

When will these products be available in Calif? Power Fuel, Special Effects and New Solution?

Power Fuel and Solution are available now in CA. Special Effect is not available as yet due to lack of volume.

kgb, how about us Texans? Are these products going to be special order? Is the HML premix still unavailable in Texas? Thanks

Power Fuel and Champion Drive Topdress are available in Texas. Power Fuel became available in April.

Currently, Special Effect and Solution are not floor stocked at our Ft. Worth Distribution Center. They can be sourced on a special order basis.

HML has always been special order. But, some of our guys know how to source products from the Midwest. (That is, some of them have been doing this regularly and know what to do).

The problem with some of these products is that there is no volume currently and if we floor stocked they would sit there and get old....not what we want to provide to you. So, with increasing demand and volume we can floor stock more show products.

Power Fuel is available now. You will probably need to special order Special Effect and Solution.
