Picky Pig

Post by Princess_Wendie » Tue Jun 10, 2008 9:30 pm

Help !!! I have a Market gilt that weighs 90lb right now and is a very light eater. I can't seem to get her to eat enough to put the weight on that we need, we have about 78 days to fair with a 200lb minimum but would like to come in around 240 or 250. When i feed her she does not rush over to eat or even eat the majority, she just picks.. she is not sick and and is current on all vaccinations..

Is there any suggestions on how i can encourage her to eat or something else i should be trying..

Thank You,
Wendie

You might try putting another pig in with her (if you haven't already).

Trying giving some B-12 or Sunglo Appetite Express. You could even trying adding a fat supplement or milk replacer. Some are just picky eaters and won't eat.

sometimes all it takes is a little competition to get them going.

i dont thank she will make it but if i were u i would get some slop togeter... you know all the scraps from dinner with some water and your base feed and have the slop warm and feed it to her or try putting sugar on her feed make it taste better then she will eat mabe even give her a b12 shot or staroid shot to boost appitite and to fight off any bug she may have

I really wouldnt throw table scraps in with her feed that wont do much. I would keep her on full feed and let her go. If you gain 2lbs a day you can easily reach 250.
