There are those that will not want to hear this (not you...others). But, Paylean is your answer. The legal limit is 9 grams/ton start with that and stay on it. If you have some room in weight, just add it on top of what you are feeding. If you have to manage weight...remember to hit 25 grams/day lysine with whatever you feed and you will be fine.

Remember that Paylean will increase growth rate and peak at 14 days and then begin to subside. So, keep that in your plans so the pig's weight doesn't get away from you. If you increase the energy the pig will not get too lean or raw in appearance.

We have a product called High Octane Power Fuel that will really increase the energy density of the diet and it is very useful in this scenario.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information.

One of the effects of feeding Paylean is increased growth rate. This increased growth increases to about day 14, when growth response peaks or tops out. Then it begins to decline, where it eventually goes back to the original growth rate by about day 24-28 the pig is on Paylean.

High Octane Power Fuel - what is it? Is it in pelleted form?

KGB... I need a FAT product for some gilts to soften them up. Honestly we've been using another product made by another feed company (cough... Moorfat). Anyway, it's $51/bag. Does Honor have a cheaper alternative? OR, is there an off-the-grocery-shelf alternative?

Any help will be appreciated!

Power Fuel is extruded (like dog or cat food). It's 31% crude fat and contains alot of good stuff besides fat. 1 - 1 1/2 lbs per day for 14 to 21 days or so will do wonders.

One of our 4-H market pigs is growing quite well but needs a big push to be competitive at the show. Would it be a good idea to give him 2 - 14 day regimes of a paylean feed? How many days should be in between? We have two extremes with the other two kids pigs gaining so fast that we are afraid they might go over. Unfortunately, we don't have scales available so don't know how much any of the pigs currently weigh. How much should a pig weigh before being fed paylean? The weigh in is August 18th so we have a little over 6 weeks ( exactly 48 days) to go. Also for pigs getting too big, is there any way to get muscle enhancement without weight gain? The pigs look nice but probably need some extra pop to be very competive on show day. Thanks in advance!

You start Paylean at 150 lbs or heavier. Pulse for 14 days at the 9 grams/ton concentration, then take it out for 10-14 and then pulse back in when you need growth.

But you really scales. Pig weights can be deceiving.

For the pigs that are being limited in growth rate, it depends how much limiting you need or want to do.

We use:
2 lbs Powerfill
1 lbs Champion Drive
1/2 - 3/4 lbs beet pulp
9 grams/ton Paylean

Per day. The gain will be somewhere between 0.75 and 1.2 lbs per day. That's a big range but it depends on the pig. We've have 2 pigs on both ends of that range in the past 2 years. And, that was weighing them regularly.

For non Paylean fed pigs that need a little muscle expression, take out the Paylean above and they should gain 0.5 to 0.75 lbs per day.

There are other ways to do this with other brands, it's just that this is the one I know about.
