stiffness in front legs

Post by porcine » Fri Sep 19, 2014 8:59 pm

I have a gilt weighing around 350lbs. I am getting her ready for an upcoming show. I noticed lately she is stiff in her front legs when walking. Haven't had any problems before with her, or during the summer show season. The only difference is she is not getting walked as much as she did during the summer. The flooring is concrete bedded deep with flakes. When she is outside on the grass she walks very good, in the pen, she appears more stiff. Feet are good, no sores or cracks. She receives sunglo g-line 16% complete mix. Would feeding glucosamine help her joints?

I would just get her up more and get her moving around to losing her legs up. You can also use some More Flex as well to help 4 oz a day. good luck

Just guessing but maybe since she is much heavier now the concrete floor is the issue. Can you put rubber down on concrete then shavings or put her in dirt pen ?

I am thinking about the feed additive as my choice of treatment. There is another littermate gilt in the same pen, and she is not stiff, they have direct access to go outside to a much larger covered lot, (unfortunately ) it is also concrete. I may have to put a fenced lot next spring attached to my barn to give them access to roam out on the pasture. They would probably be more inclined to be moving around when they can explore.
