Show pig eating shavings
Show pig eating shavings
I have a pig that won't stop eating shavings. They are causing him to cough and starting to constipate him. Is there anything to stop or deter him from eating shavings other than removing them all?
Re: Show pig eating shavings
What does he weigh? And how much are you feeding him per day?

Re: Show pig eating shavings
Pigs may occasionally nibble on shavings but truly eating them is rare and usually involves insufficient daily feed. That is why I asked how much you are feeding.
When feeding the Honor Show Chow feeds these are the suggested daily feeding rates:
50 to 100 lb. 5% of bodyweight
100 to 150 lb. 5 to 5.6 lb
150 to 200 lb 6 lb
200 to show. 6 to 6.5 lb (also if slowing the daily feed would be much less)

Re: Show pig eating shavings
Hi,
Same question but I have a miniature pig. We just got him last week and directives were to feed him only 1/8 cup of pig food twice a day with occasional small treats throughout the day. He weighs about 4 pounds. Having a hard enough time training him to consistently use the litter box but he keeps eating a the pine chips. Should we be feeding him more?
