show feed information

Post by pigboy07 » Mon Feb 04, 2008 6:07 pm

We raise our own hogs and have used honor in the past which works well for the first 50-75 lbs. but it is very expensive. Wondered what other feeds others were using. Wondered how many people have used Sunglo and what kind of success it had?? Also any other feeds people may have had alot of success with, with pigs at wean till sale time. thanks guys

I feel ya pigboy07. Bought a bag of Honor Powerfill to try to add some cover. 39.50.........ouch. I feed mostly Moormans and unfortunately it's not much if any cheaper. I guess you could look at it this way. You get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

you cant expect feed prices to be low when corn is costing close to 5 dollars a bushel. I only paid 30 for powerfill by me but that could change for this year. It gets to a point where feed companies can make their feed any cheaper and still be able to pay the bills.

sunglo is a good feed but I doubt it will be any cheaper if any. Honor starters are definitely worth the money.

58 dollars for [u:78b72605f9]one[/u:78b72605f9] bag of feed?? Come on now that stuff can't be that good.. How much are you paying for the name on the bag?? I get my feed at a local mill.. I could buy almost 6 bags of 18% grower for 58 bucks.. I hope all you need is one bag of it..

grower and start are two completely different things. Never bought any first wean but if Honor is that much then I bet that moormans and sunglo are more expensive otherwise your dealer is really giving it to you.

Yeah 58 for the ONE bag. Yeah since they're coming right off the sow it'll go a little ways then off to the starter stuff, which I'm sure has gone up. Had to get the bag all anyone had around here alot of the feed stores won't carry the show pig stuff till the 4-H kids get their pigs. The Sunglo 800 series is 23.50 a bag called today, and the Kent ASP250 flavorized nuggets 20% is 16.95 a bag. Kent's easy wean I think what it's called is 19.60. Hampy yeah the honor is very good. But we'll have around 150-200 show pigs this year, and we're going to experiment see the difference. AKEY feeds which sells the Sunglo had nutrionalist that we've talked to that has given us a grind mix for show pigs we'll be trying figures out to be 12.60 for 50lb bag. Like I said we're experimenting to see how things grow.

Honor also has a grind and mix product called Showpig Base. You use a sow premix for the mineral and vitamin portion and use the Showpig Base for the complex ingredients. Use as much or as little as you like. It's flexible and economical, and feeds pigs as light as 15 lbs in bodyweight.
