Showed a mkt. gilt this wk. 2 wks ago she would have been breed champ. Show day she was lucky to place. The hog went maternal on me. I haven't been doing this long. I'm curious what other more experienced showers have done when this happens. This hog went into cycle and completely changed morphologically in 2wk time period. I've shown heavy guilts for the last 3 years. This is the first time I've seen one change up so dramatically. I would like to know what to try to do if I recognize it happening to me again.
If ya don't raise champion children, the livestock won't really matter.

18% Protein
5% Fat
High Lysine
Some soaked Beet Pulp and oats to hold her just a fraction.

How long before your target show. I would try throwing some paylean in it and see what that does for ya. Lowering the fat and increasing the protein will help also.

too late, shows over. The gilt peaked in cycle 2 days before the show.
