Scrotal Hernias

Post by bren » Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:37 pm

I would like opinions as to what causes scrotal hernias? I have been told it can be genetic from the boar, or a combo of both boar and sow.

I had a really long hard labor with a gilt that was tiny in the hip area. All pigs had to be snared and it wasn't easy. Could the trauma of the birth have anything to do with it?

I have never seen it in the maternal side of this gilt.

It is a heritable condition but not a simple single gene like the halothane gene.
Most people just don't use that boar again.
