Love it! I am with Piggy 100 percent. I don't want to be surrogate pig momma. That is a job I can do without.

my experience has been...

1. Be there when she farrows.
2. When she has the first baby help it get to the sow to nurse.
3. If the sow is a nervous wreck put the babies in a rubbermaide container until you can get her to settle down. We just had this happen and half way through farrowing she allowed us to put them on her and they nursed for a bit, then she was done allowing them and went back to being crazy. We removed them again, and finally when she was done farrowing we introduced two babies to her by holding them between the crate and the sow up around her face. She barked and growled and eventually we were able to let them down. She sniffed them and she laid down and nursed them. We haven't had any trouble with her since.
4.In my opinion is it is key to be there when she farrows so you can asses the situation. This was our 4th time farrowing ( we aren't experts!) and we have never let the babies up around her face EVER until the sow is done farrowing!!
Hope it goes well!

Well she had 15, 13 live with no problems. She was very restless standing up and down during the process. Got the whiskey in both ears and realy did seem to calm her down. She passed a bunch of afterbirth and is resting fine now. So we got 13 little Super Monsters in the crate. Thanks for all the help!

13 Super Monster's...wow--good job. There should be some good looking pigs in a litter that size. Good job!!! (give momma a hug around the neck).

The whiskey is a great thing to calm them down. I never did it before until recently. I had a sow farrow very quickly (super short labor) and she was in a farrowing cage that was bolted down to a piece of plywood so the rest of the pen was open to the babies. She was freaked because she had her last two litters in a crate. All she would do was stand up looking at the babies. She would not lay down so I locked up the babies and put 5 cc down each ear. Within 5 minutes she was weeble wobbles and was down. I was so scared because I thought I had killed her because she was breathing real bad. I guess she was a light weight. For the rest of the night I put the babies on her every 30-40 minutes but atleast she would stay down. As soon as morning hit I switched her and another sow that had older babies. She was nervous about being moved so I gave her 3 cc in each ear and from then on she was perfect. I will from now on have whiskey on hand for me or the pig.
