Breeding question

Post by cw168406 » Tue Sep 27, 2016 4:50 pm

One of my gilts stood on a Tuesday when mounted by the boar, no ear pop though. She stood on Wednesday morning and night with ear pop when mounted by boar. She stood Thursday morning and night with ear pop when mounted by the boar. Friday in the morning she stood when mounted by boar with no ear pop. When would u guys recommend breeding her? I normally do 12 and 24 hours but would u do from the ear pop or the initial stand with no ear pop? Any thoughts would be appreciated

For me it would depend on how many doses of semen I have on hand along with the cost of the semen. Cheaper semen, I'd probably dose 12 hr after standing heat and at 12 hr intervals. More expensive and fewer doses, I might wait 24 hours and do 12-24 hr intervals. Depends on the animal. I dose sooner on ones that don't stand long, and wait on those that stand for 2-3 days.

In your case with this one, I'd wait as she stood longer. Sounds like Wednesday and Thursday were the best to AI, but I'm sure the boar bred her unless I'm misunderstanding the post. I'm assuming if he mounted her, he bred her.
