Not Bred????
Not Bred????
I have about ten sows that were weaned this spring. They showed heat like normal, and were bred live cover by a boar. I have 3 boars and do not think that is the issue. Two of the boars are proven and the other one was tested for semen quality before i purchased it. All of the sows keep cycling every 21 days. None have showed bred and aborted. Heats seem normal, and I know the boar has hit the mark. Everything bred just fine this fall, but spring breeding hasn't worked with any of them. Was wondering if it is likely just a mineral imbalance or a disease we should be testing for.
Re: Not Bred????
Why don't you collect your boars and check it under the microscope to make sure they aren't shooting blanks? That would be the first thing I would check off the list of possible issues. That's usually the primary one!

Re: Not Bred????
Something I will look into doing this week can have that checked. What could cause them to become sterile? I did breed 4 of them AI and will no by Monday if they are coming back into heat.
Re: Not Bred????
If they are sterile the first place I would check would be your feed because molds and micro toxins can cause pigs to go sterile.
Re: Not Bred????
Ya was going to have the feed tested this week for mycotoxins, will this be permenant or until the feed issue is corrected?
