Late breeding
Late breeding
I had a Semen shipments that ended up being delayed a day because a sorting problem at ups. My question is the gilt I wanted to breed came in early and was standing the night before it arrived, but 18 hours later when it arrived she would only stand with the assistance of some feed. What I would like to know is what are the chances she is going to settle. If someone would be able to have an idea I would greatly appreciate it. I already have an agreement with the stud if she doesn't. Also this is the second time a Semen shipment has been lost in the mail for me this year and I have only ordered 2 shipments from 2 different breeders.
Re: Late breeding
I hate to say that you probably missed it. I had a similar experience and missed my opportunity. In my experience if your gilt is not standing hard and needs any assistance to stand (feed) then you are on the other side of her heat cycle.
There are some areas that are hard to reach overnight for the freight carriers. I am in a similar situation and have missed my last 2 semen shipments by a day. One suggestion would be to request priority shipping so that your shipment is required to land before 12pm.

Re: Late breeding
Both shipments were priority. That is what made me upset. Ups claimed it was a sorting error on both.

Re: Late breeding
UPS is killing me as well. lol We were expecting semen on Friday. I came home and nothing! I called the breeder and he tracked the package. UPS stated the package was destroyed and undeliverable. I hope someone got semen all over them.
The last couple of doses we've started picking up. Luckily we've got some really good boar studs within 2 hours from us.
