i'm using Lindner lean target paylean (180 grams active ingredient/ton). the lable says .25# lean target with 5#s feed has 9 grams per ton. guess i've been giving him about 9 grams. weighed 238 today on 2#s feed and 2#s powerfill. i'll keep him on this a few days and see how it goes. his loin edge is starting to smooth out. looking good. do you think cutting him back like this will deminish his cover. never had a barrow this naturally muscular all over. i've been using the lindner suprrr-oink fat suppliment, would soy oil be better?

hampy, today he's wieghing 242 with 16 more days. i've got him on 3#s a day of nothing but powerfill. he's gaining 1-1.5#s per day on this ration. he's holding the cover but his flank and ribs are drawn. i'm going to continue this for 2 more days. then put the hammer down. i'd like to write him in at 265-267 and show as close to the 10# overage as i can get him. he still needs more cover so when i start putting the feed back in him should i lower the amount of powerfill or just add feed to the 3#s i'm giving him. you've got me giving all our showpigs this stuff. it works great!!!

LOL Chopster your in the same boat as I was in when I started using it. You know if that powerfill is working great on your hog you can feed it to him straight it just might get expensive. How much are you planning on increasing your feed per day. Im thinking about 3lbs per feeding so I would give 2lb of powerfill and 1lb of regular feed along with some paylean and a little fat if you need more cover. I would keep him on this for a while and bring him up to 275-280. Pull him back and then you can fill him back out. Do you have a weigh back because if you do I wouldnt blow him up as much but you should be safe at 275 if you do.
there is a weigh-back, 10#s, max weight 270. i'm happy to be able to put some feed back in him. this pig is wide fronted and bold shouldered so i need to blow his rib apart as far as possible so that everything ties together nicely. i'm hoping to be able to do this without getting to heavy. his belly and flank never look soggy even when he is full to the gills. the more he eats the wider he gets so i'm trying to save room to be able to go into the ring full af feed and water.

there is no weigh in. you turn in your own weight. if i write him in at 265 then if he makes the sift he gets weighed and he can't be more than 10#s over the turned in weight. he weighed 244 wed. night that was after being fed. today i've got him on 2# feed, 4# powerfill, 8oz fat, and 9 grams paylean. i'm shooting for a 2# gain/day. i want to leave the house at 273# feb. 12 and show him at 275-278# feb. 14

Chopster,
Sounds like you are going to SA with a York, Berk or Landrace? Seriously if you need more fill in the ribs and flank you need to get yourself some beet pulp, we use it quite heavily at the shows. It helps give use fill without giving us additional gain.
Good Luck!

he is a york going to SA, i've got beet pulp and will use it if needed, I just got him back on a higher feed level so i'm going to see how he responds for a few days and then i may try some added beet pulp. the powerfill has really added deminsion to the other barrows we are feeding. i'll keep y'all posted.

wieghed 272 tonight and looking great. feeding 2#feed and 4# powerfill along with fat and paylean and all the beat pulp he can hold. this is really blowing him wide open. hampy i hope the judge agrees with you. i read one of your posts on how you felt about the muscle and condition of a showpig. this pig is definitely not soft made and when he is full he looks wide as a house. its unbelievable how much he can eat. i've weighed him right before feeding the last 3 nights then immediately after (which is about 30 min). there is a 7# difference. and that 7#s makes all the difference in the world.
