Matrix

Post by porkypig » Wed Mar 19, 2008 3:57 pm

If I wanted to breed around April 11th, 12th, 13th, what day should I start using the matrix and what day would I need to give the last dose? Thanks for your help.

If you want to breed on the 11th, count backwards 22 days and start the matrix on that day. I give it for 16 days and count on breeding on the sixth day (give or take) after that.

if you want to breed on April 11/12, start your matrix on March 25 and feed it according to the instructions for 14 days. Your gilts/sow will start coming in 4-7 days after the last dose of Matrix.

feed Matrix:

March 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31
April 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Order your semen to arrive on April 11

Good Luck!

this will work well if you have observed heats already. if not you might have to jump start the non-cycling ones with pg-600 at the end. some give it on day 15 to everyone. intervet recommends differently.
good luck.

that is correct, I would not use it on a gilt that has not cycled yet and even then it has been reccomended that you not breed your gilt on the first cycle after administering PG 600, if she has not cycled prior to giving the PG 600. Reports of smaller conception rates!

If you intend to use PG600, it's much better to use it PRIOR to feeding Matrix, observe a heat cycle, and then feed Matrix for synchronization. Feeding Matrix to non-cycling animals can be quite detrimental.

I have gotten to the point where I only use Matrix, I like it so much. I have always and been told by my vet to start 16 to 18 days before and on the last day give a round of PG600. You still might need to wait 2 or 3 days but she will cycle properly.
