power house
My nephew just bought a power hose offspring it has excellent mass adequate muscle and nice frame looks really good at a little over 2 months old
If they only have adequate muscle, a lot of rib and massive, those hogs are starting to hit the middle of the class. still seeing hogs with a lot of power, but those wide ones with a great deal of body are needing to have a good amount of muscle down there top and through the center portion of there ham to get along. the ones that are winning with adequate muscle are the sound functional good doing hogs that are problem free. not extreme in no area. Starting to see judges doing this a little more because we have about went to far. Dont get me wrong i like the stout ones with a lot of body but those kind need more than adequatemuscling, atleast for crosses.
I would call Shane Brinning and ask him about his Powerhouse pigs. When I visited Hilltop last winter Dick told me that Shane was buying a lot of full collections of semen. He would know as much as anyone about the boar (outside of Dick himself).

go to lucky genetics web site and look at powerhouse on show day. looks nothing like the stud picture. if i were to use him i would put him on a pure york that is big enough and thAt is super sound off all four. In my opinion there are plenty more boars out there that has a lot more to offer in a more sound correct package and that are PROVEN. Just my opinion. Good luck.
Its not the boars that are proven but which ones will work on your sows or gilts the best ones dont always work according to brinning including recovery if not bred right

boar
I saw that boar show and he didn't jump up and grab my attention enough to want to use him. But I'll tell you that I purchased a Powerhouse gilt from Carl Kent that just won her class at our district, that is really turning out nice. But she comes from Carl's Powerhouse boar.

Shane called hilltop and said book me a couple of doses and I'll be over to look at him before i use hime, well he never went over and canncelled his doses, I read alot of posts on here that dick is such an honest guy and how good he is to do business, well when I talk to people at shows it is the exact opposite, he tends to strech things a little too far
Re: boar
In regards to "Cajun"'s post, the littermate to this gilt was champion at a county show in south Texas. PowerHouse 7-5 at Carl Kent's has done a nice job in his first crop. He has a young boar out of him that will be pictured in the spring. PowerHouse 7-5 is a (Big Dog x Sox) that Carl raised.cajun wrote:I saw that boar show and he didn't jump up and grab my attention enough to want to use him.
