Boar Not Getting High Enough

I purchased a boar at the Summer Type Classic in Springfield Illinois last June. I have not had a gilt for him to practice on until now. He jumps the right end but is not moving in enough to get close to her vulva and after a while will just fall off. He has got close a couple times but not where he really has a shot. I did try him a couple times on some shorter sows a month back and he did the same thing. He is only my second boar and so I am not that good at training them yet. My first boar was easy to train as he got in the right spot instantly, I worry this guy is worthless and I'm right past the 90 day guarantee. What suggestions are there? I also worry about him getting frustrated and giving up completely on the idea.

Some boars are better at it than others. Age and size plays a part. So does conformation. Selection has been towards a little to short legged and a little to short bodied for awhile now. If the boar looks like he'd be better at throwing a block than mounting a sow I would avoid them. Call the breeder. Chances are they have heard this before.

i don't know if you've had any luck, but BLUE STEEL was great on a dummy but was a little too compact as a younger boar to live breed, then one day at about a year and a half old i had a sow standing. i was just going to collect off of her and ai, left him with her in a pen to grab my gloves and collection bag and when i returned a couple minutes later he was locked in. after that we have had no problems live breeding or collecting from the dummy, he's happy with both I think he just had to mature and stretch out a bit.

I dont know yet, he is in with a group right now. If he does not succeed I am going to work on trying to collect him. I have never done this, and am up for suggestions on training.
