crosses that work

are there any crosses that work better than others,we have pure Hereford,and pure York. Looking for length and strength . also with these two breeds are there breeds we should avoid? we where thinking of looking for a landrace boar thanks

people have commented on the diameter of the loin muscle tends to be much larger on our pigs at market, so we would like to keep that trait and increase the rear leg [hams]..we do sell a few to 4-Hers in the county fairs,,5 market hogs, 3 fairs, all above 3rd place

Length is not a trait that show pigs are really bred for today.

Do the pigs show by breed at your fair? If they do I would breed classifying pigs

If you're looking to cross these sows I would do something like this:

Hereford - to a Duroc. This should give you good meat quality as well.
York - to an Exotic (cross) or Hamp.

id look at some of the better commercial york boars i think you'll still have some great show pigs
