What has Changed
Is it just me?
Typically there are always interesting articles within the various categories, but as of lately it seems the topics of discussion have been down in numbers and fewer responses as well.

Re: What has Changed
My guess ... With the current excess availability of showpigs driving the market down people aren't as in to it at the moment. So going on pig sites and talking about pigs might not be as enjoyable at the moment
Re: What has Changed
When you say "excess availability" is that because of the time of year or just more people raising showpigs compared to years past. Was just curious.
Have followed this site for the past 5 years and have noticed the same.

Re: What has Changed
So... its not just me. Not much posting lately in any of the categories. I was thinking/ hoping it was just the lull before the storm. We start farrowing the first of 5 sows the 21st of January.
Re: What has Changed
Two other things to consider: maybe folks are using the search function, lots of pages written over the years. Some folks also use the PM function to keep some things on the down low.
I disagree with the comments about number of folks raising pigs. There are just better marketing and promotional tools. Plus where do you think all the used farrowing crates come from?

Re: What has Changed
You really don't feel like more people are trying to raise them? Where are those crates you're talking about going? People get out and others jump in obviously, but if I had a dollar for every time I talked to a customer that said they were going to try and raise a litter themselves rather than go look for and buy their showpig from someone else...
Re: What has Changed
The number of posts always slow down this time of year. I would guess you will see them pick back up in the spring when kids start getting county fair/ State fair pigs in their barns.

Re: What has Changed
I totally agree with more people raising hogs. There are a ton of people trying to get into raising their own and trying to breed 2-3 sows which in my opinion is a lot harder than trying to breed 20. I have a feeling in the next 5 years you'll want to have the most sows in your herd because the guys with 5 or less sows will get out of it. Success doesn't come over night and this is an expensive/risky business to be in. If you're new and have trouble you wont last long.

Re: What has Changed
Definitely less people raising them in my area. 4hrs are also moving on to goats or other animals that are much less expensive to purchase and feed.
