Cross Boar
So I have an Executive Decision gilt and am looking at breeding her to either Visionary, Wedding Night, or Best Man. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!
Re: Cross Boar
I think it depends on what you are trying to do...these boars are all slightly different in style. What does your gilt bring to the table and what does she need in terms of physical traits?
Re: Cross Boar
Think you can take Visionary off the table. Depends on what you're after breeding gilts, boars and what's her holes
Re: Cross Boar
Why take visionary off the table?

Re: Cross Boar
So why not Visionary? And some traits about my gilt are that she is real long has really good muscle, she is balanced up well and is real sound all the way through.

Re: Cross Boar
Also i am looking at getting a real good barrow from her litter and I was looking for maybe bigger feet and bone
Re: Cross Boar
Semen isn't any good last I've heard.
Re: Cross Boar
Wedding night would shorten the pigs up and has good bone. I would make sure the combination difnt have too much muscle and make sure your sow has a pretty head and neck because WN is not real attractive there. I like Lock It Up and Rule 10 at Wintex and Socks Off at Underdog Genetics. Socks Off is moderate and has massive feet and legs. Theres lots of options out there.
Re: Cross Boar
Another boar to really consider is Meant For Thrills at West Texas Boar Stud. He is probably the most attractive boar I've seen in a long time.
Re: Cross Boar
I don't think they'd be selling Visionary @ $350/dose if it was no good, not to mention the guaranteed settle policy. Visionary is still very much in use and has been one of the most common sires at most of the big shows.
If I were you based off your description I would look at Hi Point Genetics. They have a lot of heavy boned, big footed, ideal length boars. I have seen some really great pigs out of high point boars...Stanky Leg, C'mon, Rambling Man, and they just added 5-6 to the line up.
