Linebreeding

Post by apalizay8 » Fri Sep 15, 2017 8:17 pm

I have 6 gilts out of 4 different sows and all out of the same boar. I have a nice mature boar i wanted to take them to but i believe he is too big for the gilts. I also have a young boar that is littermates to one of the gilts but not the other 5. This boar is the right size to breed the gilts but he shares the same sire as the gilts, different dam. I am sure people have had luck with this, I have seen a linebred boar breed its dam and they were fine, was just wondering what are the chances it doesn't work.

Any form on line or in breeding will concentrate some of the genetics in the animals both good and bad.

However, what you are discussing is far from intense so pending the volume of genetic junk you have in the animals - and all have some junk - you should be fine.
