Essential Keep'n on
Essential Keep'n on
Have heard some different times on when to give this to pigs, have heard to feed 3 days prior to show, then 24 hours prior, 2 hours before show and 15 minutes before show. Have also heard other times to feed it. And was just wondering what have you guys have found is the most effective time to feed it to the pigs? Thanks!
Re: Essential Keep'n on
We give it to them 2 hours before the show and again 15 min before we go into the ring
Re: Essential Keep'n on
Following the directions on the bottle works very effectively for promoting a full look through the center rib and maintaining a fresh look. That would be the 3 days, 24 hours, 2 hours, and 15 minutes plan as you mentioned. If you are looking for more expression and top shape as well, you can also mix Essential's Revive electrolyte with water and give to the pigs between each dose of Keep'n On.
Re: Essential Keep'n on
Do you have to allow for extra weight (water gain) when using this product?
Re: Essential Keep'n on
The product is designed to provide a full look to the pig without much added weight gain. If you fill the bottle with water and shake well so that the contents are evenly mixed and then give it to the pig, that bottle will then give the pig the fill equivalent to 1 gallon (or 8 lbs of water) at 1/16 the weight. So you are looking at each bottle of Keep' N On adding about a half pound to the big. Of course adding more water will increase weight, and it is always good to measure water prior to consumption when you are fighting a weigh back.
Re: Essential Keep'n on
So is this a waste of money to use at a show without a weighback?
Re: Essential Keep'n on
I certainly wouldn't say that. This product will provide an exceptional increase in body fill and help maintain the fresh look for all hogs. For purebred gilts and shows that do not require weigh backs, one can feed the Keep'n On with as much water as they desire. More fill and center body pop will be achieved if a hog consumes a half gallon of water with 1-2 bottles of Keep'n On mixed in than would be achieved if they just consumed a half gallon of plain water.

Are you drenching your pigs to get it into them. Our pigs would not drink it the last time we tried to use it. Any suggestions.

Most farmers give it to them 15 mins before the show and 2 hours before. But some pigs do give a tough time drinking it especially when its the first time.

Re: Essential Keep'n on
I've been using keep'n on for years, I use it as the directions on the bottle. It Is a good product but it does not put on like you would pour fluids to them. The best gut fill look you can use is lots of gut fill feed and water the night before and day of show. The keep'n on is not a last minute fix for a hog to narrow if you didn't stretch that gut leading up to the show it's not going to do much for you.
Take something good out of every experience you have.
