Nors Showpigs is a show pig operation located in Abbott, Texas. Joshua Nors and his family own and operate 20 head of sows and focus on raising quality Berks, Durocs and Crosses to sell to junior exhibitors to exhibit.
The operation was started out of Joshua’s passion for agriculture and a little push from his ag advisor. Growing up in the dairy business with his family, he was always inundated with livestock and the work that comes with it. With a few pigs around the dairy farm as well, Joshua found himself always spending more time there and taking favor in the pigs. This led to his involvement with 4-H and FFA clubs where he exhibited pigs and would soon meet his ag teacher and mentor, Larry Little.
“Larry was the one who persuaded me to start breeding pigs once I graduated high school. He believed in me and what I could do as a breeder,” says Nors.
Nors was raising showpigs for a few years after high school, before a busy college school schedule put his plans on hold. Now, a few years later, he has a family with kids who are starting to follow in his footsteps and show pigs and he is ready to jump back in to the breeding and mating decisions that make good stock!
“As a producer, I want to raise quality livestock while teaching my kids life lessons and everyday skills. We work to grow our operation yearly, in both numbers and quality and initially, it is my hope that we can start to build some customer satisfaction that will lead to repeat customers,” Nors says about his growing new operation.
Currently the central Texas operation houses 20 sows and is equipped to farrow eight litters at any given time. Nors hopes to grow this to 32 sows in the future to provide more mating versatility and options and the ability to reduce down to the highest quality of sows and producing females.
Nors says, “It is my goal that the increased quality of our sows and breeding base will lead to the success of our pigs in the show ring as well as success with raised breeding stock.”
In a time of growth and building, Nors has decided to consign in the Debut to help build their name and garner recognition for their livestock. With more limited numbers and not enough pigs to put together his own elite sale, this is a great option to showcase the quality pigs from his proven litters!
“I’m excited to choose to consign in The Debut to help get our name and our livestock out there to a larger audience in an online format that we would live to eventually move to, but currently don’t have enough to host our own sale at this time.,” Nors adds.
