Plasterer Show Pigs is a 5-10 sow show pig operation based out of Warren, Indiana that focuses on producing high-quality Berkshires, Durocs, Polands, Hampshires and Crossbreds. Matthew Plasterer is the owner of Plasterer Show Pigs and spends most of his time on the farm.
Plasterer’s younger brother and several other industry leaders who raise pigs served as his biggest inspiration to get started with his own operation. He grew up in the business and always knew he would want to play a role in impacting the next generation in the same way he was impacted.
“One of the biggest opportunities I saw when making the decision to breed my own, was the opportunity to teach the younger generations the responsibility of taking care of livestock. With that also comes a lot of life skills,” says Plasterer.
The primary goal and focus of Plasterer Show Pigs is to raise quality pigs that can be competitive at all levels. Plasterer has also made it a goal to ensure that pigs are not only competitive, but the experience he helps provide is good for the kids and helps make him a mainstay in the industry. As a smaller producer, he knows the day-to-day can be challenging, but it’s always worth it in his mind.
“It is challenging some days to keep pushing to stay in as a little producer. But the joy our son shows for the pigs keeps us pushing to stay in. We hope to continue for him and the rest of the youth,” comments Plasterer.
As a smaller producer, Plasterer hopes to utilize The Debut as a new selling tool to help him gain some exposure amongst the online buying community. He is looking to place pigs in good homes that will help to continue to build the Plasterer Show Pig name.
